La Cumbre House: A Journey Back in Time

Nestled in the neighborhood of San Roque, La Cumbre House stands as a proud example of 1950s California Ranch architecture. We were captivated by its understated elegance and the stories embedded in its walls.

Our goal with this project was:

  • To restore the property

  • Preserve its nostalgic charm

  • Infuse it with modern features

Expanding Horizons

One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the challenge of expanding the usable space without compromising the house’s integrity.

With a careful balance of budget and design, we managed to add 600 square feet of functional living area. This expansion includes a spacious two-car garage and a luxurious primary suite that instantly became the heart of the home. The primary suite is a sanctuary of comfort, featuring a stunning wall of glass that frames serene views of the lush backyard, inviting tranquility and natural light into the space.

Embracing Open Concept Living

To enhance the sense of space and connectivity, we opted for an open concept design. By removing several interior walls, we created a seamless flow through the kitchen, living, and dining areas. This open layout not only fosters a sense of togetherness but also provides ample room for children to play and families to gather. It’s a design that perfectly suits the dynamics of modern living, where flexibility and openness are key.

Seamless Indoor/Outdoor Living

One of the hallmarks of California living is the effortless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. At La Cumbre House, this is beautifully achieved with a large glass sliding wall that opens to the meticulously landscaped rear yard. This feature blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, creating a harmonious extension of the living area. It’s a space designed to enjoy the best of both worlds—whether you’re lounging indoors or soaking up the California sun outside.

Scandinavian-Inspired Elegance

The interior design of La Cumbre House is a nod to Scandinavian minimalism, the Owner’s favorite design style, with a palette of white finishes and cool woods. This combination infuses the home with a sense of elegance and simplicity, creating a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere. Every detail, from the sleek kitchen surfaces to the serene bedroom retreats, exudes a quiet, understated class.

La Cumbre House is more than just a renovation project; it’s a revival of a classic. By blending the timeless charm of 1950s California Ranch architecture with contemporary design elements, we’ve created a home that honors its past while embracing the future.

It’s a space that offers the epitome of modern living amidst the breathtaking California landscape.
